USB Disk takes a LOT of time mounting. Even FREEZE the DE

Hi again people.

I don’t know if its related with my last post running here: My DVD drive start working bad recently in KDE 4.4.3 - openSUSE Forums , but this is another very annoying thing happening in my openSUSE box.

I have several flash drives, from several sizes and all have the same problem: When I plug them, the drive simply takes a LOT of time mounting and showing the data, but really, a LOT, and meanwhile the flash light blinks the desktop environment its FREEZE, until it shows the mounted drive.

Some output from a recently plug that takes again a lot of time:

What could be? This was tested against: KDE 4.3.5 and 4.4.3 with the same results.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Hi, I’m bringing alive again this post just because i have tried everything that i can guess without success.

  • Update to KDE 4.4.4
  • Update BIOS

So, Its still taking ages to mount USB Drives, and this happens in all my openSUSE installations: Laptop, PC, Netbook.

What could be? :frowning:

Hi,

I’ve also been experiencing this problem with an External Western Digital MyBook USB HD. So we can at least start finding any similarities, what kind of filesystem are you using? I note that I have been using NTFS so I can use the drive in windows and linux with no limitations on file sizes. I think my issue may be my filesystem becoming fragmented as an EXT3 partition of the same drive mounts quickly. This may also happen if you’re using a fat32 filesystem on your usb drives.

I’m using openSUSE 11.2 KDE 4.5 RC2, but it’s happened in previous KDE versions as well.

Take Care,

Ian
