i have 2 external seagate HD on usb setup. they show up on “my computer” but when trying nto access them i get no response. what am i doing wrong?

What make of HD, what format (ntfs, FAT32, ext3)?
In a terminal go su:
fdisk -l
paste here
can you see the devices in: /media
