usb burning is incredibly slow

Hello, i am trying to burn opensuse 12.3 to an 32gb usb stick, the program i am using is usb image writer on linux mint 14 xfce.
But it is incredibly slow, ive been burning for the past 2 hours and its not even halfway, this cant be right.

It is the big iso file on 4,7gb.

does anyone know any faster way or do i have to wait this long?

sorry for my bad english. thx

I don’t know why it would take so long, but here is the howto; https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Live_USB_stick

I find that dd works great.

dd if=/path/to/downloaded.iso of=/dev/sdX

It’s that simple.

thx for the quick reply, i will try doing the console way,

Good luck and happy openSUSE’ing

And in openSUSE, you have a bash script option to do it all for you, including the ability to reformat the USB when done or to format the remainder of the thumb drive if it is larger than the image you have burned. For 32 GB stick, it could take up to 16 minutes to burn, not counting the time to download the image in the first place. Have a look at the bash script here: S.C.L.U. - SuSE Create Live USB - Blogs - openSUSE Forums

Thank You for using openSUSE,

For future ref

Just check if you actually installed ‘Imagewriter’ by searching for it
in synaptic.
Because Mint by default, has a usb Imagewriter installed ‘Mint Stick’
and referred to as USB Imagewriter, but it is so slow…

Install Imagewriter from the repos and it will be fine.

Hello! I also am trying to write an image to usb stick. Tried with SCLU (thanks JC McDaniel!), also with Imagewriter (from openSuSE - ‘Studio’ version).
No Joy. Get error: “write failure” from script, Imagewriter and dd. Any clues; and yes /dev/sdc is verified as the proper ID for the stick.
Thanks. Have A Healthy, Prosperous Day!

But your problem is then not “usb burning is incredibly slow”, but
something else. Why don’t you start your own new thread, with an
appropriate tittle?

Your stick might be write protected.
