USB 3g modem

Hello everyone! I’m personally a Ubuntu user and am trying to set up a friends laptop to use a Vodafone 3g usb modem with Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop. I apologise if this is the wrong place for support but I couldn’t find a SLED forum.

Anyway I have downloaded the drivers at Betavine -

I have tried both the OpenSuse drivers and the SLED ones, neither seem to work. I think the problem lies in not having python-devel packages installed but I’m having a nightmare with them. Firstly there are no repos set up (I tried opensuse 10.2, 3 and 11 but no luck) and the package manager is not helpful at resolving dependencies.

Any chance you guys could point me in the direction of either a) getting python-devel etc installed or b) (even better hehe how to do the whole thing?

Thanks so much in advance (and sorry for long post!)

Is this the Huawei E220? You need a recent kernel, > 2.6.20. Or with .18 and .19 you can patch the kernel and compile a driver. Earlier than that, you have to upgrade the kernel.

Search for Huawei E220 in this forum and others for the lowdown.

Hi
Current SLED kernel is 2.6.16.60-0.27.

To the OP, there are SLED forums, see forums.novrll.com.
