UPS Eaton E NV1400H cannot connect to PC.

Hi,
I bought new UPS Eaton E NV1400H ,but cannot connect and monitoring it.
The ups have software for monitoring on CD ( Winpower Manager ) and it work on Linux.
I install it.
I connect ups to my pc with USB cable but the software cannot detect ups.
Is there anyone who has used such UPS with this software?

Have you read the manual?

Without being familiar with this particular device, you should see a /dev/ttyUSB* device node pertaining to it.

ls -l /dev/ttyUSB*

To run as a user, you will need to be a member of the ‘dialout’ group for read/write access to that device node.

For further clarification, the manual says that Linux systems cannot auto-detect the serial port device attached. The communication settings must be configured manually via the application menu: System > “COM Port Setting”. So you will want to add the appropriate device node there.

I test to set

But nothing ,
cannot connect to USB

All is not lost…

I’m not familiar with the Cypress device or what driver supports it, (so it may not be /dev/ttyUSB* that gets created after all). I suggest plugging in the device and then observe the output from

dmesg|tail

That might tell us how the device is being handled.

FWIW, I have seen a few threads from searching that suggest that this chipset is treated as a USB HID class device (similar to keyboards) with /dev/usb/hiddev0 or similar being created for communication.

Another suggestion I have would be to purchase an alternative USB-serial adapter cable that is supported by Linux. For example, I have such an adapter for network console work which is supported by the pl2303 kernel module. Then, you could proceed as normal.

So, yes maybe not being handled correctly with the kernel. I too saw reference to the blazer_ser and blazer_usb drivers for this device.
