Hi!
Finally I’m on my way to do something about my HP (Compaq) 6730b Laptop (2008) with 2GB ram and a 250GB 5400rpm HD running oS13.2/KDE used for day-to-day work outside home/homeoffice. I have no problems about the speed, but I have notice that is have started to use swap file (100-600KB). 2-3 rdp-sessions, Firefox and 5-9 tabs. Libreoffice 2-3 files opens at the same time. Well I feel that its “stalling” when its swapping" and I can see that the HD-led is no longer blinking. I stays on like a permanent light!
I found a 250GB Kingston SSD for ~105EUR inc VAT.
It is already a 2GB DDR2 installed in one slot. The manual/spec says max of 8GB and takes up examples like 2x1GB=2GB, 1x2GB=2GB, 2x2=4GB and 2x4=8GB. In connection to this its also mention “dual-channel” memory setup.
So my large question is:
-can I use the already installed 2GB and put a 4GB in the other slot (=6GB)? Well yes I will not be able to use the “dual-channel” but will it work?
Price here in Sweden examples, 2GB DDR2 SDRAM(800Mhz) ~39EUR incl VAT. 4GB DDR2 SDRAM ~79EUR incl VAT.
Peanut money maybe. But it is the concept that counts ;).
Ps. The VAT in Sweden are 25%. Ds.
