uPnP media (music) client

Has anybody got any suggestions for media (music) players that work with uPnP in Suse? Have setup Mediatomb, and this allows ‘devices’ to connect to the libraries, but other Suse PCs can’t see them. Apparently there are lots of “gonna be’s” (VLC, Amarok etc are apparently working on it), but are there any simple music players that can play this media?

Thanks, John.

Hmmm.
Nobody knows, or there aren’t any, I wonder…

I can’t say I know anything about it. I do know I can access my server over my LAN - I use ssh. Such streaming is very much dependant on the quality of your network, mine works, but I wouldn’t use it that way out of choice.

Have you asked about this on **#mediatomb
**

No, haven’t asked on mediatomb, as it’s not really a mediatomb question either, I don’t think…
I “believe” that VLC has this capability, just not in the Suse version… I have a Ubuntu install also, and I do get the option, and can connect with that…
John.

VLC is packaged not by openSUSE but by Packman
I take it you use this version?

Hi
Have you looked at Ushare?

Yep, it’s the Packman version - actually did an upgrade last night to: 1.0.5-1.pm.3.19, and just noticed there is another upgrade there now (1.0.5-1.pm.3.20), so will give that a go…
Geexbox uShare is a server, not a client…
Thanks, John.

I have the same issue.

I have setup a mediatomb server on an opensuse box and try to use vlc from another opensuse system to access the media with no success.

From a windows machine on the same lan, media player is successfully accessing the mediatomb server.

I’m using the latest vlc from packman repo.

Any suggestions?

  • elksi,

turn off the local firewall on the openSUSE box.

Uwe

I have tried that. I think that has something to do with the architecture (64bit) because on an opensuse 11.3 32bit system vlc “sees” the mediatomb server without problems and with the firewall on.
