upgrading to kde 4.1

can we upgrade to kde 4.1 via Yast2 ? or ?

Best way is to go here KDE/KDE4 - openSUSE
then here to add the community and extra-apps repo’s KDE/Repositories - openSUSE
**Be sure your adding the factory repo’s **

which repo do you install in factory repos? The KDE 4.1 Factory Development for 11.0 ?

yes it is the KDE 4.1 factory development for 11.0

I’m running it now, but it lools like it’s install 4.0.4 I don’t want that one. I already have it and it’s not good for general use.

Where’s the 4.1?
I should be for straightforward than that. I’ll have to uninstall it!

if you did the 1 click like i said in the frist link i gave you you will have kde 4.1 heres a screen shot of which one click to install

I checked the first one for version 11. isn’t that the correct one? but nothing worked the way it was suppose to.

no it is the second set of green boxes look at that screen shot i posted in previous post it shows the second set of green boxes and says 4.1 the first set is just for 4.0

the second list is for 64 bit I used the version 11 in the first list.

It would be easier to use the command line instead of the confusing lists on that page?

what are the commands for installing repos and kde4.1?

that second list is for either 32 bit or 64 bit it will automatically determine what your system is
i’ve used it many times all 32 bit system the exact same 1 click install

Hi Havoc65,
I did click on the 32 bit 1-click and the Repo link… it installed, then what was I supposed to do?

I’ll try the other link in the second group, I’ll see how it goes.

im telling you the first 3 links is for 4.0 thats what your problem is the second set of links is for 4.1 once you have them installed log out then on the login screen goto sessions pick kde 4.1

Thanks, I now can log into kde4.1 but I have two toolbars and a screen with the screensaver running and openoffice opended a page. Its flipping out! what would cause this multiple windows type of distortion of kde4.1?

well glade we got that all figured out lol
now with that other problem shut down all them apps or whatever was running then restart your computer log back into kde 4.1 and see what happens

OK, I shut down the PC and booted up and its now bringing up the login screen, even though I turned auto-login off. Why would that happen? anyway I logged out of the session and selected 4.1 at login and it did the same thing… two toolbars and screensaver running in another window and the look and feel window is in another window. Something’s corrupted here!

Any clues? At this point I’ll stay with kde3 and I’ll wait until opensuse 11 comes out and reinstall the whole thing.

If your KDE4 is messed up, boot into your KDE 3.5 desktop, open up your file browser of choice, and go to your home directory. Find the .kde4 folder in your home directory and delete it. Then log out, and at the login screen pick KDE4 and log in. You should have the default KDE4 desktop.

If auto login is off, that means you must log in every time - that is why you get the login screen!

I try that… auto-login was turned off. but it auto-logged in anyway!

Auto-login is still running even though I turned it off. This time kde 4.1 came up but it still wasn’t very good. I’m going to reinstall opensuse 11 4.0 again and start fresh.

that was my next thing for him to try usually works great for me :stuck_out_tongue:

I reinstalled 11.0 now I’m back at the beginning. where are the files to run dvds and music? I can’t get into my forum history to find the old threads. The forum is not very easy to find thread like some other distro forums.

I just went into Yast and I see that Kaffeine is installed. I select the Kaffeine engine I think it called and Yast wants install all kinds Open Office programs that I did selct at all. What with Yast?

This has been a bad experience with Opensuse. I hope one day things improve at opensuse, but I have to say that Mint and sidux have been a much better Linux experience.

Yast is still trying to add programs I didn’t ask for ten minutes later!!!

Hope you have a better time with opensuse than I have.:frowning:
