I am a little unsure about upgrading from 11.3 to 11.4 as I am reading about bad bugs and things like zypper, dup and RC2. I should be OK on the bug bit as recently I had one and was shown how to report it and then fix it but I am a bit concerned about updating to have a load of problems. Do you think its safe?
I’m waiting until EOL of openSUSE 11.3.
Hi, the bug you are referring to with zypper dup will not pe present if you upgrade with the liveCD or the DVD. Just save all your data, don’t format your /home folder and upgrade to 11.4. You shouldn’t have a lot of problems.

Yes. If you read the real documentation rather than the FUD, you would see that
the problem was very quickly fixed. On-line updates no langer are affected!!

I have upgraded several running 64 and 32 bit 11.3 systems to 11.4.
I just edited the repos from 11.3 to 11.4 (OSS, NON-OSS and Packman)
and ran zypper dup.
Just check the new Packman repository arrangement, they changed it quite
recently.

openSUSE 11.4 (x86_64) 2.6.37.1-1.2-desktop in VirtualBox
openSUSE 11.4 (x86_64) 2.6.37.3-16-desktop “Tumbleweed” in EeePC 900
I just upgraded in the same way Vahis mentioned and Nautilus has stalled out on my. The gnome desktop will not load or any Nautilus folder. I could only get into a functioning session when I loaded XFCE–which in 4.8-OpenSUSE is very, very nice!
Any suggestions for restoring Nautilus functionality?
I just posted this issue in a new thread here:
Mounting network-shared drives fails when upgrading to 11.4

I don’t use gnome, no nautilus here.
But I think it’s some of your personal settings that cause this.
You could try to create a new user and see if everything works when
logging in as that user.
If so I think you could rename stuff in your home:
…gnome .gnome2 .gconf .gconfd .metacity
Then log in as you and now everything should look like the first time
after the initial installation.
Then you can either tweak again everything back to the way you want them
or, you can copy stuff little by little from your old renamed folders to
reproduce the problem and find the culprit.
Like I said I don’t use gnome but this is how it would go with any
desktop I guess.
