Hi everyone!
I’m not a very expirienced user of linux|opensuse, so excuse me for some mistakes
So here is my issue
I have chain of stores using the same soft on cash registers. This soft uses mono6, firebird2.5, python3.6 and some else components with the same versions.
The main problem is there are 3 diferent OS versiones - 42.1, 15.0 and 15.4.
For installing this versions i have 3 different images of OSs (using dd to img.gz file)
and if I want to upgrade soft - sometimes it needs to upgrade components versiones. for OS 15.0 and 15.4 it not a problem at all, but for 42.1 i need to find the way to upgrade, and it not just to run
zypper up mono (for example) - I’ve to find repos with working packages and so on.
So is there any posibilities to upgrage from 42.1 to 15.4 remotelly using snapper or iso image to upgarede OS using zypper dub?
@nero08zhd:
First, welcome to the openSUSE Forums.
The legacy upgrade How-To is documented here: <https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:System_upgrade#Legacy_migrations>.
- Please note that, openSUSE maintains detailed support instructions in the “Support database” – the “SDB”.
Given that, you’re maintaining Point-of-Sale machines – cash registers – please check if, the cash registers running the openSUSE Leap 42.1 are in fact 64-bit machines –
- They should be because, openSUSE Leap only supports 64-bit CPUs – openSUSE 13.2 (pre-Leap) was the last openSUSE version which supported 32-bit CPUs …
There is some openSUSE Leap 42.1 information here: <https://en.opensuse.org/Category:42.1>.
Looking at your question regarding –
So is there any posibilities to upgrage from 42.1 to 15.4 remotelly using snapper or iso image to upgarede OS using zypper dub?
I suspect that, a remote upgrade from a legacy openSUSE Leap system to a openSUSE Leap 15.4 system will not be possible, mainly due to the need to move ‘/var/cache’ – assuming that the system partition is using the Btrfs file-system.
thanks for answer. i really apriciate that
I’ve found this guy’s system upgrade manuals
https://yourlinuxguy.com/?p=1268
so I’ll try to upgrage system keeping packege versions

Considering your remote installation issue to systems which are Point-of-Sale machines – cash-registers – you could consider the following path:
