I have a stable 11.4 system (64bitt) with gnome 2 that Ive had running for quite sometime. I’ve recently moved 11.4 under project evergreen for continued support. I’m thinking about wiping 11.4 and going to 12.3. So is there any big advantage to do so right now.?
thanks
Rich
There is none. The Milestones are not stable. If you want 12.3 you’d better wait until it’s released. But, what matters is why?
Knurpht
Thanks for the reply, so I will probably stay put for a while. The reason for thinking about the upgrade is problems one encouters when trying to install new software on an older OS release.

If you have to ask that question, then you are not prepared to use the
beta version, ie, 12.3.
If you insist on using 12.3, then install it on a new partition or disk,
without touching your work system.

Ok. Then you should consider upgrade to 12.1 or 12.2, but not to the
beta version unless you know what you are doing.

Thanks for the reply, and your good suggestion of installing 12.3 in another partition and leaving the 11.4 intact. Ill think I’ll go with Knurpht’s suggestion and keep things the way they are for now.

I suggest you wait until 12.3 is released. Or, at least wait until the first beta is out.
I have 12.3 installed on a test partition, and it is reasonably stable. However, the factory repos have likely changed since I installed, so if I wanted to add additional software, that might cause problems. When a beta is out, you will be back to a tested somewhat stable version, although things can still change between then and the final release.
If you want stability, wait for 12.3 final. If you are willing to experiment, at least wait till a new beta release is out.
Have you considered Tumbleweed. You can always get latest(highly relative variable) software

Possibly there is more software available (in repos, ready made) for the
latest stable than for tumbleweed.
