Upgraded to Kernel 4.7.2 from 4.1.27 locks up on reboot

I was wondering if anyone has had any issues with the new kernel 4.7.2…I just upgraded my Opensuse 42.1 machine tonight and on reboot the machine locks up on the boot screen. Any help would be appreciated, side note I was able to reboot again and go to advanced options to load the old kernel. I just wanted to see if there was a fix for the problem I am having with this 4.7.2 kernel

Actually, yes. The machine I set up with LEAP the other week did much the same, except the login screen did not even come up. The last line on the screen was something to the effect of “the locale service started”.

I did not have time to investigate, it seemed X started up then locked, so the error message would be in its message file, if there is one.

I just restored the Clonezilla backup of the initial install because the person who owns the PC wanted it back in service right away. I will try the updates again at a later date, when there is time to work on the machine.

However, in your case, you need to supply more information about your system, especially in regards to the graphics card.

First, though, did you try using the 2nd option on the Grub2 menu (I think it is called the Failsafe entry?)? If not, give that a try, then report back here. But, be sure to mention which graphics card you have.
EDIT: Oh, on rereading, I see you did try that, and it worked. Do you by any chance have an nVidia graphics chip? You then would need to update the nVidia driver, AFAIK.
