"Upgrade" to PAE Kernel after install?

I added more RAM to my system (have 4GB now) and would like to run the “PAE” kernel as I hear it makes most effective use of this much memory.

I tried adding “kernel-pae” in YaST, but I get a dependency error (with glib) and the only option to resolve it is to not install the kernel-pae package. Is there any way to switch to the “pae” kernel after install?

what version of OpenSUSE are you using? What is the exact error? What architecture are you on?

Listen to your package manager, I think he is right.

I’m running 11.1 - x64

Is pae a 32bit only thing? That would explain it…

With 64 bit you do not need PAE. (It’s for 32 bit only)

You should see all your new memory just fine.
