Upgrade to latest KDE 4.x (from KDE 4.2.1)

Am presently using KDE 4.2.1 on openSUSE 11.1, and would like to upgrade to the latest KDE 4.3 / KDE 4.2.2.

What are the repositories for the latest KDE 4.x (stable), including any additional Qt repo (if needed separately) ?

PS
I would not like to uninstall or disturb the KDE 3.5 that is also installed alongside & works properly with KDE 4.2.1 (Release 114).

TIA

KDE 4.2.1 should be fine for now, as KDE 4.3 is right around the corner.
Hold off for a bit, unless you are having major bugs or something

What about KDE 4.2.2 ?

KDE 4.3 is right around the corner.

When is KDE 4.3 (stable version) expected ? Will it be compatible to install alongwith KDE 3.5 ?

Dont worry, you will be able to use both KDE 4.3 and 3.5.
As for when KDE 4.3 is expected, so far its expected to be released on the 30th of July.
As for KDE 4.2.2, eh its so close to the KDE 4.3 release right now I would not really bother with it.

How exactly are you using 4.2.1?
What are your repo’s?

Have you seen this:

No additional QT needed

I found KDE 4.2.(3,4) more stable than other 4 releases.
For KDE 4.3, i think its quite different from kde4.2.x.
I tried M2, and it looks like very promising than previous releases with some major updates and alot of bug fixes.
I m sure, KDE4.3 will rock and it will be a stable release so far like kde3.5 series.
KDE4.3 is releasing on 28th July 2009.

Code:
zypper lr --details

I am using KDE 4.2.1 alongside KDE 3.5.10.

The repos are:

KDE 4.2.1

- http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.1/
- http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Extra-Apps/openSUSE_11.1/
- http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Qt/openSUSE_11.1/

KDE 3.5.10

- http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Community/openSUSE_11.1/
- http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE3/openSUSE_11.1/

While upgrading to KDE 4.2.2 or 4.3b, I would not like to disturb the KDE 3.5 install & it’s packages.

Do this in a terminal:

kde4-config -v

post result

user@linux:~> kde4-config -v
Qt: 4.5.0
KDE: 4.2.2 (KDE 4.2.2) “release 114”
kde4-config: 1.0

Thing is, you either don’t update or your repo’s are disabled because the Factory repos you have provide 4.3 beta!
That’s why I asked for:

zypper lr --details

Yes, I have not updated anything (including Kernel/System Updates) since appx last 2-3 months.

user@linux:~> uname -a
Linux linux-xxxx 2.6.27.19-3.2-pae #1 SMP 2009-02-25 15:40:44 +0100 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

Because (as I mentioned above) I do not want to mess up the functional KDE 3.5.10 install while updating to latest KDE 4.2.x / KDE 4.3b. The last update I did was before the KDE 3.5 & KDE 4.2/4.3 packages were renamed.

The repos you should have for Stable kde4 are as given in the HowTo I gave you: KDE4.2.* (How To Add) Guide. - openSUSE Forums

You would remove:

I am actually running the Factory and FYI the Extra Apps is no longer.
And I also have kde3 with no problems. You need a bit of SUSE magic to manage kpowersave with kde4, you actually have to add it kde4 autostart and set disabled, otherwise it conflicts with powerdevil.
