can any body tell me isit worth 2 upgrade from kde4.1 to 4.2 ? i musing kde4.1 & i m worried 2 upgrad if i face problem since i read alot of people facing the problem. in 4.1 i dont face any promlem. my pc is working ok. so i want to know whether i shuld upgr?
You should upgrade. There are significant bug fixes from 4.1. The only issue I’ve had with the upgrade has been resolved by either removing plasmarc or installing the correct version of Qt. The software installer seems to have a problem with installing the correct Qt version.
Yes. 4.2 is leaps and bounds better than 4.1.
Thanks for suggestion.
can u let me know how much MB i have to download?
do i have to take precaution like 2 diable something?
what is Qt ?
Is the interface better then kde4.1?
Have a look at KDE/KDE4 - openSUSE which explains what you have to do to get KDE4.2. You should disable any KDE4.1 repositories that you have enabled.
OK.
Now one more question,
I have a live CD KDE 4.2, now my question is can i installed KDE4.2 on my already installed opensuse 11.1 KDE 4.1 & if so how should i do ?
Post the terminal out put of
zypper lr
we can then see what repo’s you have and advise.
You can’t use the live cd to add 4.2
Thanks for your reply.
Here is the output…
sanghvi@linux-nc1u:~> zypper lr
| Alias | Name | Enabled | Refresh
–±----------------±----------------------±--------±-------
1 | 11.1 - VideoLan | 11.1 - VideoLan | Yes | Yes
2 | openSUSE 11.1-0 | openSUSE 11.1-0 | Yes | No
3 | repo-debug | openSUSE-11.1-Debug | No | Yes
4 | repo-non-oss | openSUSE-11.1-Non-Oss | Yes | Yes
5 | repo-oss | openSUSE-11.1-Oss | Yes | Yes
6 | repo-source | openSUSE-11.1-Source | No | Yes
7 | repo-update | openSUSE-11.1-Update | Yes | Yes
sanghvi@linux-nc1u:~>
Then add:
Packman
Index of /pub/packman/suse/11.1
Do update all unconditionally in Packman
The repo’s you need for 4.2
Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.1
Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Community/openSUSE_11.1_KDE4_Factory_Desktop
Optional:
Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Extra-Apps/openSUSE_11.1
Thanks!
I have 1 Mbps internet a/c with a download speed of 135KBPS, but if i download any thing from openSUSE OS 11.1 i get just the speed of 30KBPS & if the same is downloaded from Windows XP (through download manager) i can download @ 135KBPS.
So i want to ask whether i can download KDE 4.2 from Windows & then install in openSUSE offline ? There are two advantages like
- The download will be faster &
- I have a copy of KDE 4.2 with me which can be useful whenver i have to reinstall the openSUSE in future.
Do let me know.

What you suggest is not impossible. But you may find it complicated. Here is one way.
Creating YaST Installation Sources - openSUSE
I have upgarade to 4.2 through one click install.
It is running OK.
Excellent - Well done.
