Upgrade from 13.2 to 42.2

I have done an upgrade of my system from openSUSE 13.2 to openSUSE LEAP 42.2 earlier this week. The upgrade went smooth and no obvious major problems. There were a few issues which have been resolved already.

I’m now left with one issue which is pretty unclear to me right now.

My system is connected with a KVM-switch, when I switch over to another machine and come back Dolphin, Kate and Konsole no longer have keyboard access. Firefox and Thunderbird still do. Not sure what this means. The mouse is still working okay with all programs. I noticed that the programs not having keyboard anymore are all KDE based where Firefox and Thunderbird are not. That is just an observation, not sure whether it is related or not. Either I close and open the program or I need to logout and back in again to make it all work. I do not find any obvious errors in the logs

Has anyone ever experienced something similar and can maybe give me some ideas how to resolve this.

That is strange behaviour, especially since you report that non-KDE applications are not affected. Does switching away to another VT and back help at all? Does Alt-F2 bring up krunner?

Similar behaviour reported here, (but not KVM induced)…could still be related somehow…

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101955

I switched back and fort with another virtual terminal but the issue persist.

Alt-F2 brings up krunner but I can’t enter anything in it from the keyboard.

Yesterday after writing this I also noted that it happened with widgets. In this particular case the digital clock where I wanted to do something with tz. No input possible after this switch via KVM-switch

I agree that https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101955 sounds similar except maybe there it is unclear why it starts.

It could be an issue with kwin_x11 (which receives input events from libinput). This may warrant a bug report.

Next time it’s unresponsive with respect to keyboard events try switching to a VT, log in and do

DISPLAY=:0 kwin_x11 --replace

then switch back to VT7. Is the keyboard then active again?

I did that and I can see the process which was just started but there is no keyboard input.

You mentioned kwin_x11 and I had issues with it after the upgrade. What happened was that the plasmashell did not start properly. I got autostart programs running but no menu and widgets etc. After some investigation I noticed something wrong with my nvidia drivers

i | nvidia-bumblebee | package | 384.59-4.1 | x86_64 | home:lemmy04
i | nvidia-computeG03 | package | 340.102-18.1 | x86_64 | Nvidia-Repository
i | nvidia-gfxG03-kmp-default | package | 340.102_k4.4.27_2-18.1 | x86_64 | Nvidia-Repository
i | nvidia-glG03 | package | 340.102-18.1 | x86_64 | Nvidia-Repository
i | nvidia-uvm-gfxG03-kmp-default | package | 340.102_k4.4.27_2-18.1 | x86_64 | Nvidia-Repository

Somehow it had installed a package from a different version and repo. I never had any nvidia driver installed from that repo only from nvidia themselves. So I uninstalled all and reinstalled nvidia

i+ | nvidia-computeG03 | package | 340.102-18.1 | x86_64 | Nvidia-Repository
i+ | nvidia-gfxG03-kmp-default | package | 340.102_k4.4.27_2-18.1 | x86_64 | Nvidia-Repository
i+ | nvidia-glG03 | package | 340.102-18.1 | x86_64 | Nvidia-Repository
i+ | nvidia-uvm-gfxG03-kmp-default | package | 340.102_k4.4.27_2-18.1 | x86_64 | Nvidia-Repository
i | x11-video-nvidiaG03 | package | 340.102-18.1 | x86_64 | Nvidia-Repository

That solved the issue. I do not think this is related at all but I’m also not sure as the video driver is having an impact on kwin directly as well is my understanding.

I’ve now upgraded to Leap 42.3 but still experience the same issue.
