Upgrade from 11.4 to 12.2 Kmail2 initially worked but now get "Failed to collect the resource"

Upgraded a laptop from 11.4 to 12.2
Kmail conversion failed & told me to run “kmail-migrator -interactive” manually. Tried to & it told me it had already been run. Started kmail2 & imported kmail dirs into kmail2 & everything seemed OK for a day or two. Yesterday kmail failed to start & produces the error message “Failed to collect the resource collection”. This appears to be a known problem, so I tried the “delete everything to do with akonadi” technique that seemed to be recommended & kmail would then start but there were no folders displayed & it was completely unusable as it would neither send nor receive mail.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Does kmail1 exist for opensuse 12.2? I’ll have to regress to 11.4 if I can’t sort this as internet access & email is what the laptop is used for.
As a side issue, how on earth did 12.2 get beyond alpha status with such a flaky kmail which must be for most people a mission-critical piece of software?

Because you did not test it and report the problem.

Adjusted / corrected the Akonadi settings under System Settings - Personal Information and the problem seems to be resolved. Still got no idea why it apparently spontaneously stopped working - I wasn’t fiddling with the Akonadi settings at the time.
