Have SuSE Linux Server running QEMU/KVM with a VM running SuSE wkStation. All 15.2
When informed 1-January it had reached EOL (got warning 6 months ago, so was not a surprise), I decided to take New Year’s Day to upgrade in place to 15.3
First Cloned VM in case all went awry, then did all the ZYPPR stuff as instructed (over 2K files to download, check and install) and now successfully 15.3 (server still 15.2 – we’ll do that when we’re all straightened out here).
It installed a new Firefox and new Thunderbird.
Both required a bit of a dance, including a new profile (command, not suggestion) when starting.
Lost settings, bookmarks etc. for Firefox, eventually just did it manually,
HOWEVER, with Thunderbird, I’ve lost all my email accounts (which I can create anew, I guess),
but lost the address book and saved emails is a bit painful.
What to do?
Post:
zypper se -si thunderbird
Update your system by:
zypper up
And change to the old profile by:
as User
firefox -P
maybe there is also an switch with thunderbird:
thunderbird --help
Its also
thunderbird -P
But you have to update first.
Thank you so very much.
First times it loaded, ( before I asked y’all for help ) , it said lots of compatibility issues – “Danger Will Robinson Danger!!”
I did all your steps.
Your solution appears to work (I’ve got my address book back, etc., and after just a few things, I shut it down then opened it by clicking on the icon).
Because that first time activating Thunderbird from the command line, errors came out in the terminal window while I was in the graphical TB.
IPDL protocol error: Handler returned error code!
###!!! [Parent][DispatchAsyncMessage] Error: PClientManager::Msg_ExpectFutureClientSource Processing error: message was deserialized, but the handler returned false (indicating failure)
IPDL protocol error: Handler returned error code!
###!!! [Parent][DispatchAsyncMessage] Error: PClientManager::Msg_ForgetFutureClientSource Processing error: message was deserialized, but the handler returned false (indicating failure)
It repeated many times.
Shall I ignore it since it mostly appears working, or do I still have things to do?
The problem was, that with the Upgrade to Leap 15.3 an older Version of Firefox/Thunderbird was installed, so a
zypper up
before starting Firefox/Thunderbird should be the solution.
Or
about:profiles
after updating.
For Thunderbird help, someone have to help you, I use kmail and have only installed Thunderbird for getting the commandline options.
