Upgrade 12.1 Tumbleweed -> 12.2 GM possible?

Dears,Is it possible to upgrade from 12.1 Tumbleweed to the new 12.2 GM? When executing # zypper dup I get the following upgrade proposition: linux-2xxy:/home/quentin/Documents # zypper dup Achtung: Sie wollen eine Distri - Pastebin.com (with the following repos: http://pastebin.com/jvCh7PQD).As far as I know this is what Tumbleweed is intended for (always the latest stable releases regardless the 12.x version). However, I have read several forum posts reporting system crashes and breaks after this kind of upgrade. Could you thus tell me if such an update is possible? If not, what is Tumbleweed good for then?Kind regards,Quentin

I suggest you re-evaluate your repos

If you use the standard Tumbleweed method as linked by caf4926 the process should go OK. That’s the way Tumbleweed was designed to upgrade. But if you more strongly want to use the GM DVD, you can put the DVD in the ROM and add that as a repo (e.g. sr0) and run zypper dup. The second is more likely to make problems than the first. But if you make a simple and fast backup with “cp -auv” then you can always reverse either method if you run into problems. I think you need this repo now too

It’s new to 12.2

Thank you for recommendations. I am glad to confirm that the upgrade went successful with the Tumbleweed and openSUSE-current repos.

The only issue I am running into is that grub2 does not load. Grub1 is still active and a new entry has been added for grub2 referring to /boot/grub2/core.img (which does not exist linux-2xxy:/home/quentin # find /boot/grub2/ /boot/grub2/ /boot/grub2/fonts / - Pastebin.com ). Selecting this grub2 entry will thus lead to a boot error. How can I fix this issue? Is the upgrade to grub2 not automatic?

Thanks in advance and best regards,
Quentin

Is the upgrade to grub2 not automatic?
I wouldn’t expect it to be

You can either upgrade to 12.2, or to tumbleweed new, if you have the appropriate repos. Your
choice. Some weeks from now, you might downgrade to 12.2 instead.

At this point 12.2 and tumbleweed are the same.

caf4926, how can I set up grub2 like a vanilla install of 12.2 would do it? Does 12.2 provide an upgrade easy script (contrary to the manual steps of [1])? Is there any concise howto? Currently the “default” following entry in grub1 does not work:

title GNU GRUB 2 – openSUSE 12.2 - GNU GRUB 2
kernel (hd0,5)/boot/grub2/core.img root=/dev/disk/by-id/ata-FUJITSU_MHZ2320BH_G1_K60YT9526CSP-part6 resume=/dev/disk/by-id/ata-FUJITSU_MHZ2320BH_G1_K60YT9526CSP-part5 splash=silent quiet showopts vga=0x367

Once this is fixed, I could switch from grub1 to grub2 via YaST.
