Updating

Hi,

Right now I have openSUSE 11.0 with KDE 3.5, and I want to update to 11.1 with KDE 4.2. So what I’m planning to do is just boot the 11.1 DVD and choose update. My question now is: what will happen. Will my program preferences be saved, or will I have to configure everything over? Will there be any conflicts, or is everything resolved automatically?

The previous times I “updated”, i just did a fresh install and backed up all my documents.

Thanks.

It should pretty much work. You’ll end up with openSUSE 11.1 with KDE
3.5 (which is a good thing). Then you can, at your leisure, switch
things to KDE 4.2, etc.

I’ve done a couple doing the update without many issues (can’t remember
any, there was probably something, but it must have been minor).

I was curious about this also. What if your current box is 11.0 but you are
already running KDE 4.2.4? Will it downgrade the KDE and then you’d have to
upgrade back?

I was also wondering programs would be downgraded to the version on the DVD
