Updating VMware Guest Tools easily

Anyone using VMware should know that very recently there has been a major change regarding the Guest Tools.

In summary,
The new Guest Tools (open-vm-tools) is automatically installed by openSUSE whenever the install has detected it’s in a VMware environment and **under no circumstances should ever be removed.
**
Instead these new Tools need to be patched, and as of this writing there is at least one significant bug which has existed since at least Feb (5 mths ago and long before the new Tools were pushed in the standard repos). As of now, and I don’t know if it’s reasonable to expect Maintainers to diligently stay on top of new patches and re-build immediately, so the User should assume the task to update his own Tools.

The procedure for patching open-vm-tools may be confusing to the casual User.

In any case, for both casual and expert Users, I have created a script that sets up and executes the patching easily and is currently posted in this Forum post
Forum Post with Script for Patching open-vm-tools

When I get some time, I’ll create a wiki page describing this script and provide the script for easier download and execution.
