How can I keep my desktop updated to the latest point releases? Pretty new to openSuse so any info would be appreciated. I haven’t found very clear information on how to perform the upgrades for all of the kde desktop components.
You will receive updates to the installed version, as far as it concerns fixes, patches etc. If you want to keep up with the released kde.org version, you’d have to add a repo:
Yast - Software - Software repositories - Add - URL - Next
Name: KDE 4.10
URL: Index of /repositories/KDE:/Release:/410/openSUSE_12.3
Next - Trust the key
For the KDE-Extra packages:
Yast - Software - Software repositories - Add - URL - Next
Name: KDE 4.10 Extra
URL: Index of /repositories/KDE:/Extra/KDE_Release_410_openSUSE_12.3
Next
OK.
Now
Yast - Software - Software manager - View - Repositories
First click “KDE 4.10” from the list, click “Switch system packages …” on the top of the right panel.
Next click “KDE 4.10 Extra” from the list, click “Switch system packages …” on the top of the right panel.
Now, if you already applied the vendor change to the Packman repo, select that one too, and apply the “Switch system packages …”.
**
Accept, **let the software manager do it’s job. On completion logout, login and you’re in KDE 4.10.1

If you use the packman switch after…, you might want to check Amarok, I had to keep the KDE one for it to work, well that was in 12.2…
Just FYI
Thanks, updating now, that seems to be working!
… or the zypper way:
zypper ar -f http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Release:/410/openSUSE_12.3/ KDE-410
zypper ar -f http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Extra/KDE_Release_410_openSUSE_12.3/ KDE-410-Extra
zypper -v dup --from KDE-410 --from KDE-410-Extra ## trust the keys
What is the rationale for switching? I have two kde repos currently: OBS KDE:Extra, and OBS KDE:UpdatedApps.
