Updating Evolution

There are some fairly small problems in Evolution, version 3.63. I understand that 3.8 corrects these issues. It seems that 3.8 is available in download/opensuse.org/repositories/GNOME:/STABLE:/3.8/openSUSE-12.3/x86_64. Can I use this repository without introducing instabilities in my system?

If I add that repository, should I disable it after or leave it to get any patches that may be placed there?

Hi
I’m running 3.8.1 on two systems here all going fine…

Have a read here: GNOME 3.8 for openSUSE 12.3 – GO GET IT @ Dominique a.k.a. DimStar (Dim*)

I would run screen before su - ing to root user and run zypper patch as well.

SCREEN?

My initial thought was to use Yast as it’s what I’m most familiar with, then run YOU again to see if it calls for any updates.

OK. I did a

bart@Asus-990FX:~> man screen

That’s a LOT of reading!
It’ll be next week before I can absorb all that’s available!
Looks like a fully capable option to konsole for some things.

Here is asking you to upgrade to GNOME 3.8. Decide whether you want to upgrade
Also “screen” is a package which will retain the desktop when the installation is going on the in the background. If screen is not activated during zypper dup then you will get a black screen and you will not know what is happening in the background.

OK. I did a

bart@Asus-990FX:~> man screen

Somehow I did a duplicate! Sorry!

i usually read man from GUI like this
Alt+F2(open command launcher) ==>

xdg-open man:screen

man from terminal / Konsole is un wieldy

Well, I used Yast, added the relevant repository, and then, in Software Manager, searched for Evolution and was shown the available upgrades. Changing the check marks to the upgrade marks, remembered to add yelp as there is no dependency requirement, and clicked continue. About 30 seconds later, Evolution was upgraded! All the problems I had are gone!

Only thing is, evolution-tray doesn’t work any longer. In just a couple of weeks, I had gotten used to it and now, I’ll miss it.

Thanks all for the help!
