Updates won't install

WithTumbleweed XFCE 64 bit on a Lenovo Thinkpad W520 688 updates are being held back.

The error messages reads:

Media source ‘http://download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/repo/oss/’ does not contain the desired medium

What’s to do?

TIA

When I see an error like that,
The first thing I do is verify that my machine can reach that location.
Enter the URL into a web browser and see if you have a networking problem or if the location is reachable.

If the location is reachable,
Then try again.

Also, how are you updating?
Another try is to update using the command line as follows

zypper dup --no-allow-vendor-change

TSU

The location was reachable.

The problem was, zypper dup REQUIRES a vendor change due to some incompatibilities that weren’t mentioned using YAST’s updater.

So I am doing a straight zypper dup (that is, allowing vender changes - after all, Tumbleweed is a rolling edition).

And will report if further complications occur.

Thanks, TSU

The --no-allow-vendor-change is the new default for TW. Since the 20170709 release, so ‘zypper dup’ defaults to that option.

1776 updates/upgrades are being installed. (I’m about 1/3 through it).

I tried that first but incompatibilities were mentioned.

zypper dup worked.

After updating and updating/uprading via zypper dup and changing my online update settings via YAST, everything seems to work except the four key - which didn’t work before (and does in other distros).

That includes running EccoPro, a Windows PIM.

I will now do this on the laptop, also.

The laptop is installed with Tumbleweed Xfce and using zypper dup both with and without the “–no-allow-vendor-change” instruction required a large number of complications (choices due to incompatibilities) that makes me think that I should install LXQt on that one also.

This only happens when you have additional repos. Nothing to do with what desktop environment is / was installed. Please post output of

zypper lr -d

I manage a couple of TW machines, updating is a smooth process on all of them. Please also show these ‘incompatibilities’

The desktop machine with Gecko LXQt had no problems (and Gecko uses extra repos).

The oSUSE Xfce is the one that is hanging up.

So I installed the LXQt desktop environment but on rebooting it still goes straight into Xfce.

zypper l -rd gives

The problems all have to do with Libre Office, Perl and Python

Repos seem OK. Please show ( maybe through paste.opensuse.org ) the output when running ‘zypper dup --no-allow-vendor-change’ .
BTW did you reboot after the upgrade ?

I was unable to upgrade. The choices never ended.

I will send the initial choices soon (I’m on the desktop machine in the office - same house). But they never end. Hundreds of them.

Warning: You are about to do a distribution upgrade with all enabled repositories. Make sure these repositories are compatible before you continue. See ‘man zypper’ for more information about this command.

And after those come dozens more.

It looks like I am going to have to reinstall.

How much does the system no longer update?

It won’t update at all.

For how long?

Probably quite a while.

I don’t recall, exactly.

Try it alone

sudo zypper ref
sudo zypper dup

And she shows what she is proposing

Yes, but the upgrade will not overwrite an existing conf file which
contains the old setting.
