i’m trying to install my updates through install/remove software in gnome opensuse, but when I click apply everything just disappears, can I install them some other way? Any help would be great.

In a terminal window, try:
sudo zypper up
That should get the updates applied.

I’ll just mention that what the yast online update does is equivalent to
zypper patch, not zypper up.

Correct.
And zypper up is when you have all your installed software shown in the YaST > Software > Software management list and there right click > All in this list … > Update when a new version is available.
