Updates: Main repository keeps failing (time out)

I can’t update my openSUSE 11.1 properly anymore, as the Main repository fails to respond: time out. It has been like that for days.

How can I switch to a mirror server?

First post the terminal output from:

zypper lr -d

We could do with seeing the setup of your repo’s first.

Make sure you have disabled IPv6: Disable IPv6 - openSUSE Forums

Here is a list of mirrors: openSUSE Download Mirrors - Overview

The problem is only with repo-oss. My repo list is pretty clean, I think:

I’ll try disabling IPv6, but the problem is only with repo-oss…

Thanks for the mirrors list: how do I change to a mirror?

I disabled IPv6 and rebooted. But the problem with repo-oss remains.

How can I change to a mirror? And how can I see which mirror (if any) my openSUSE is currently using for repo-oss?

If you are using a redirector (download.opensuse.org), the mirror is
auto-selected by means of some parameters. Explanation on how this works,
here:

http://en.opensuse.org/Build_Service/Redirector

If you are facing problems with a specific mirror, select a static server
close to your location:

Greetings,

OK, this worked! Thanks.

Switching to fixed mirrors solved the problem. I selected the Heidelberg University mirror. Not because it’s closest, but because it seems reliable. And I like Heidelberg. Dem lebendigen Geist.

I had to change not just repo-oss, but all three openSUSE repo’s: oss, non-oss and update.
