Greetings,
I updated all packages the other day and now KDE4 doesn’t work.
It loads up and I get a desktop and can move the mouse around. I am not able to click on anything, right clicking the desktop does nothing or anything in the taskbar.
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix or troubleshoot?
If >= 4.1 then check that you have up-to-date Qt packages from: Index of /repositories/KDE:/Qt/openSUSE_11.0. If you haven’t, then add this repository, and update your Qt packages.
Rename your plasmarc and plasma-appletsrc file in directory /home/<user>/.kde/share/config to plasmarc~ and plasma-appletsrc~ and try to restart KDE.
I didn’t have the exact repository as you mentioned, I had this directory /repositories/KDE:/Qt44/openSUSE_11.0/ instead of what you mentioned. I removed that repository and put in your recommendations and attempted to upgrade, but all files were up to date.
I also renamed with the plasmarc~ and plasma-appletsrc~ files with no luck.
While not in KDE4, backup your /home/your_name/.kde4 folder and then delete it (you can also just rename it). It will be recreated on the next start of KDE4. Then your desktop should work again.
Hmm, I don’t know how to help you here. It happened to me once, on openSUSE 10.3, that I had to delete two or so more things to “restore” KDE4. But I really can’t remember which those were. Maybe someone else knows.
In the meantime you could tell us a bit more in detail what system you are running and what you mean with “I updated all packages”. I assume you only updated KDE4, or did you do something like a dist-upgrade? If that KDE4 solution that worked for me comes back into my mind, I’ll let you know. Good luck.
Well, that was quite a big update, I guess. I never used that option, only used “all in this list → update” in certain repositories. Were there no dependency issues during update? You can see if everything is ok when you type zypper ve, even though I think the problem is more related to some old KDE4 settings in the depth of your system rather than dependency issues. If you encounter dependency problems you can post the output of zypper sl as well. So we can see which repos you have enabled.
