updaterapplet > click install and it just closes?

Hello,
i thought i have been using the Updater Applet, it lists updates, i check them and click ‘install’.
the dialoge window closes (back to taskbar), if i hover over it, it says updating, but nothing ever dropes form the list as if it were installed.
what’s happening?
