Updater Applet help please

I’ve been getting the following error message in the Updater Applet for the last couple of days…

PackageKit Error repo-not-available: File ‘/content’ not found on medium 'http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE0x0p+0/11.20x0.07f5deb8d0858p-1022/NonFree/standard/'

Could someone please offer some advice on how to resolve the error or to remove the source of the error? Please keep it simple as I’ve only been using openSUSE for a matter of days.

I was trying few days ago to get Xine to play encrypted DVDs with no luck. Could it be related to this?

Many thanks
Jim

Might be a transitory error - repos throw these things up when they are, for example, updating.

Disabling ipv6 might help - plenty on that if you search the forum

If you’re still having trouble, what’s the output of

zypper lr --details

You can set the system to look at a particular mirror, if the ‘mirrorbrain’ is giving you issues…

Hi Confuseling… thank you for your post.

I tried disabling IPv6 but the error message still appears. I’ve now re-enabled IPv6.

I tried to navigate to the Index of /distribution/11.2/repo/non-oss/suse directory but when I click on the standard directory it opens the debug directory Index of /debug/distribution/11.2/repo/oss instead!!

The output from zypper lr --details was…

You mean in a web browser?! Well, that might at least explain your problem. :stuck_out_tongue:

I suggest attempting to use a mirror directly. Simply select one from this list (major institutions like universities near your geographic location are a good bet - no harm changing it if it’s slow),

openSUSE Download Mirrors - Overview

Then go into YaST Software Sources, and copy the entry you have for ‘non-oss’ to a new entry. Then replace the “http://download.opensuse.org” part with the name of the mirror you’ve selected. Ensure that the priority is set correctly, and finally, disable the original.

Whoops. Posted before I was finished.

To be clear - you need to select ‘http’ or ‘fttp’ from one of the mirrors on your list, then you’ll have your web browser pointed at the repository; something like “http://anorien.csc.warwick.ac.uk/mirrors/download.opensuse.org/

That’s the bit you need to replace the “http://download.opensuse.org” part of the URL line in ‘software sources’ with.

Thanks Confuseling

The Updater Applet error message was appearing every time the computer booted up. I used the browser just to check where the computer was trying to communicate. It was quite strange as I could navigate up to the standard directory, but once I tried to open that one it jumped to a directory that is listed on my system as the Debug repository.

I’ve taken oldcpu’s advice and limited my repositories to the 4 he recommended, this appears to have solve the problem.

Many thanks for your help
Jim

No problems - glad you got it sorted.

Mirrors can be a bit funny…
