Updated to 11.3, new kernel does not work, old does

I have just made online upgrade using this guide: SDB:System upgrade - openSUSE

After upgrade and reboot, new kernel started radeonhd driver instead of radeon, and screen started to flicker and wouldnt enter KDE. I tried SAX but there is no sax. Yast does not have how to setup display. Tried modprobe radeon, didnt worked.

But, since I had my old kernel, that I myself compiled and was working pretty well on 11.2, continue to work pretty well.

What do you suggest me to do, to fix radeon problem at boot? (I dont know if there are more problems yet).

Above may not be quite correct.
As I booted with no apparent problems with older kernel (that one that I compiled myself), i started konqueror sysinfo: and it showed my kernel, suse 11.3, but radeonhd driver.

Now, maybe its the version of radeonhd, or… I dont know… with new kernel, even if screen flickers and looks “unstable”… text mode works.

Still looking for suggestions.

OK… new kernel by default does not work, but my old 2.6.32-2 works as a charm.
I have recompiled new kernel, but have a problem. It won’t boot.

Error:
Could not mount root fs. Inappropriate IOCTL for device.

Anyone knows how to resolve this?

New kernel is very different in regard to video, it uses KMS now. Old
doesn’t, that’s why it works with old driver.

Look at other posts with similar video than yours.

Well, since it didn’t work out of the box at all with my Mobility Radeon x2300, I decided to recompile kernel, which resulted in IOCTL error during boot. Funny… same config settings for 2.6.32 works properly, so now I use 2.6.32 and it works. However, I would still like to try .34
Is there some KMS settings I need to include in kernel built?
