James - this post is regarding my attempt to update to the newest stable kernel for 13.1 and my failed attempts to accomplish same.
First, from what I recall this morning, there was a lock on System Management by PID 1935 zypper while trying to execute the update command. Not being very familiar with Linux and the terminology utilized for description of these types of events, I am short of words to be more specific than already stated.
Please respond at your convenience as I would like to engage in a conversation attempting to ferret out what has gone wrong with my attempt. Thank you for your personal assistance.
Update: Suspend to Disk does NOT work properly after kernel update. Fails to resolve back to saved configuration and freezes the machine requiring a reboot. I am going to attempt a reversion to original kernel from 13.1 and see if it is the kernel update that is truly responsible for the problem. Don’t know how to revert but am thinking I’ll learn how between now and when I get a response. Good mental gymnastics for my brain.
I had already removed the “desktop” kernel with Software Manager. Am trying the Suspend to Disk command again with this older kernel to ascertain whether the problem exists with it. Thanks for the over-the-shoulder peeking into this post.
Suspend to Disk fails miserably with the newer Stable “desktop” kernel and I am not interested in pursuing the follow up to see what the true problem is. My forays into kernel updating is nipped in the bud at this point. Thanks for the assistance wolfi.
There is no “peeking over the shoulder”. Either you start a thread which can be read by everbody and where all members can contribute, or you use the Private Message facility on the forums to contact somebody.
I think you misinterpreted my statement, or I stated it badly. I had no reason to shield this communication from anyone; however, because of the previous help that wolfi had offered in another matter, I was appreciative of his “peeking over-the-shoulder” and commenting. His help has been instrumental in my learning about this new to me operating system, Linux. No presumptions or offense intended.

I am running kernel 3.12.1 in openSUSE 13.1 and I used my SAKC script to do so and SAKC has been upgraded with the release of openSUSE 13.1 to 2.81. This is not to be confused with beta kernel 3.13, which is having a problem for me.
James - I see that I have failed to reference the proper kernel versions I have been using. No beta for me either, only the “stable” 13.12.1, which had the problem with the Suspend to Disk. The 13.11.6 is working fine again for me now.
My problems with suspend started with kernel 3.11. The kernel developers had to change something then. Kernel 3.12.1 is still not good. It looks that it depends on hardware configuration.
