Hi,
Just for information.
I had a system running 11.4 quite happily and applied with all updates and went to update to 12.1 x86 64.
My system has two disks, first disk running windows 7 and second disk changing to latest suse.
Downloaded the dvd, burned and booted from dvd, selected install, update. found the correct existing system and ran through the update procedure and all looking great.
When reboots gives me my menu correctly and loads windows correctly but fails error 17 on loading the new linux.
Problem found to be device numbers incorrect in boot loader had written device as (0,1) instead of (1,1) for second disk.
Get in by using e to edit boot line within menu and can then find system, with system loaded edit boot menu.
I ended up doing a full install anyway and was not too bad but should have been quick and slick instead of mucking about.
Hope this helps some others, Cheers.

17 : Cannot mount selected partition
This error is returned if the partition requested exists, but the
filesystem type cannot be recognized by GRUB.

So, could you boot it or not?

Why did you not try to repair the upgrade? did you have more problems

Doubtful. It would help if you had sticked on it and reported the bug in
bugzilla, with logs, that are now lost.
