Update on my Kmuddy problem

So a couple of weeks back, I asked for help installing kmuddy. You can read that in the archives here

So I have to rebuild the rpm with a slight change to the .spec file, and then execute: rpmbuild -ba kmuddy.spec, but I get an error. After a giant list of files it starts going through what I think is a dependencies check? Not sure, still trying to get used to the whole Linux thing.

Not enough room to post entire output. I’m posting that as a reply to this thread.

What else do I have to do?

do you have the qt devel libraries installed?

I reinstalled them and tried again. Same error.

Okay, I installed qt3-devel and ran the rpmrebuild -ba command again. It got a little further before it ran into another problem.

What does it mean by prefix? I don’t remember having chosen anything, prefix or otherwise, so I am guessing this is something I’m going to have to go into a file to change? What file? What change(s) do I need to make?

In the header of your earlier post, there was:

Note the --prefix given to configure! That’s the option it’s complaining about. Check the KDEDIR is correct, and make sure you have the kdebase-devel (I think that’s the one) installed.

I installed kdebase-devel and got a lot further along. Still hit an error though. It’s looking for:

/tmp/kmuddy-0.8/opt/kde3/man/man1/kmuddy.1.gz

instead that dir has:

kmuddy.1

How do I take care of this? Do I just rename the file? Do I have change the line in the kmuddy.spec file like the license/copyright issue I had earlier?

I guess I’d try to gzip it. Only rename it if it’s already compressed.

Can you gzip a file that doesn’t end in .gz? More importantly, this is a file that is being created by the rpmbuild -ba command. If I run that again, wont it just recreate the wrong file and throw up the error again?

Renaming the file didn’t work. When I ran the rpmbuild -ba command again it replaced the file (to be fair, I thought that would happen), so I went in and edited the .spec file to look for what was actually being created. Then everything was fine. Well, at least, I got an rpm & it installed. Now I just have to learn how to use it! Thanks for the help!
