update of software repositories hangs up in fresh install of 11.4

Hi there,
after a fresh install of 11.4 on my 11.2 machine, I wanted to update the repositories via yast or zypper. Both fail after a few MB of download and then stop.

Internet and firefox allow to download the repositories manually, but with 183 software packages - no thanks!

Any help is very much appreciated.

Have you rebooted proper ?

I just realised that sounds odd to non UK persons.

Post install, make sure you reboot again in addition to the systems post install reboot

Hi,
yes, I rebooted (in fact, the machine was off yesterday).
Any further idea on this? Is this rather a network problem or a problem of my machine? I have never had this with 11.2. Although I every now and then have the problem of not being able to get a reply from a DNS server.

Are you using DHCP
or did you set up DNS manually?

DHCP. My provider only works with this.

Try booting to level 3
Login as root
And try update from there:

zypper up

OK, will do.

Good hint!
This worked out.
Still, the yast graphical version keeps being stuck.
Any idea to get this working? I would like to install skype with the respective dependencies (and I like to see graphics and move the mouse better than typing text like in the early days of computers).
Thanks!

I found a bugzilla thread which seems to cover a similar problem:
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=688454

So, if I enter

rmmod 3c59x
modprobe 3c59x debug=6

then yast will run smoothly.
It seems, there is something going on with the 3Com network cards, as I also have one installed (3C905CX-TX/TX-M).

Sweet
At least some progress

Indeed.

Please add yourself to the bug report with a “me too” at least, and
hardware details. Do not forget!
