Hi
Just tried it here, works fine (Tumbleweed Version 20170602).
zypper in http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/multimedia:/photo/openSUSE_Tumbleweed/x86_64/fotoxx-17.04.2-66.4.x86_64.rpm
The following 11 NEW packages are going to be installed:
dcraw dcraw-lang exiftool fotoxx libcfitsio5 libgtkimageview0 perl-Archive-Zip perl-File-RandomAccess perl-Image-ExifTool ufraw ufraw-lang
The following 3 recommended packages were automatically selected:
dcraw-lang perl-Archive-Zip ufraw-lang
11 new packages to install.
Not sure why it wanted leafpad, but had to manually install that…?
Force the re-install of perl-Image-ExifTool and exiftool;
Since Fotoxx is already installed, I ran your second command.
Long story short, hundreds of packages in 586 architecture were installed.
This broke KDE Plasma; I am running ICE. The reported error is kdeinit5 not running.
But it did get Fotoxx running again.
Oh, remind me please how to post konsole output in a window that scrolls. I obviously did something wrong.
zypper se --file-list kdeinit5
Loading repository data...
Reading installed packages...
S | Name | Summary | Type
--+-------+--------------------------------------------------------------------+--------
| kinit | Helper library to speed up start of applications on KDE workspaces | package
I can live with ICE, although it is slower to use without desktop icons. I tried installing Gnome but it does not appear in the list of desktop options at log in.
How can I manually restart kdeinit5?

Hi
Yes, that’s why I suggested to re-install, just in case something got
corrupted… Unfortunately I have no idea about KDE, sorry…
Just adding desktop environments may not help as there may be something
deeper down that is playing up…
Have you run;
zypper ref -f
zypper verify

Now to the solution?
FWIW I have Tumbleweed on my laptop too. Fotoxx is also dead here. Below is the beginning output from attempting “zypper in -f perl-Image-ExifTool and exiftool”
Needless to say, I did not allow it to proceed.

The package list for “solution 1” exceeds the character limit for this forum, so I will post just some of it. You can see the proposed architecture downgrade.
Solution 1: Following actions will be done: architecture change of perl-Net-SSLeay-1.69-1.9.x86_64 to perl-Net-SSLeay-1.69-1.11.i586 install perl-Net-SSLeay-1.69-1.11.i586 despite the inferior architecture architecture change of perl-Crypt-SSLeay-0.72-1.10.x86_64 to perl-Crypt-SSLeay-0.72-1.12.i586 install perl-Crypt-SSLeay-0.72-1.12.i586 despite the inferior architecture install libsnmp30-5.7.3-8.8.i586 despite the inferior architecture architecture change of libKF5Sane5-17.04.1-1.2.x86_64 to libKF5Sane5-17.04.1-1.2.i586 install libKF5Sane5-17.04.1-1.2.i586 despite the inferior architecture architecture change of xsane-0.999-1.5.x86_64 to xsane-0.999-1.5.i586 install xsane-0.999-1.5.i586 despite the inferior architecture install libdigikamcore5-5.5.0-2.1.i586 despite the inferior architecture
These are the other proposed changes. Not knowing what effect these will have, I will wait for recommendations.

If it’s doing that the mirror your being directed to is broken…
Use the -vvvv option to see where it’s going to download stuff from.

I thought I’d like to try fotoxx so installed the rpm as per post #2 from Malcolm and leafpad, re-installed exiftool but the perl-image-exiftool tries to update which fails. Anyway this is a fully up to date Tumbleweed KDE Plasma 5 system. I still see the problem with missing exiftool 8.6 or above. Output from starting in concole shows

I’d be interested to know if this works for “broadstairs” too.
As it now stands, my Tumbleweed install on my PC is broken, as far as KDE is concerned. I’ve installed Mate, which is perfectly acceptable to me, since I also run Mint 17.3 on the same system. Tumbleweed’s boot loader handles multi-boot, so I am not going to chance trashing it with any more attempts to revive KDE Plasma. At a later date I will reinstall Tumbleweed, with Mate and not install KDE.
I like Fotoxx because it provides graphic services like the ancient Compupic, which ceased working ages ago after glibc 2.3.2.
OK fixed it. I found that my perl installation was mixed both 5.24.0 and 5.24.1 which was causing the issue. Dont know how this happened because I only have perl for function not coding. Anywa now have only 5.24.1 installed and fotoxx works OK. Now to do some testing with it.
The 5.24.0 items had an update available to take them to 5.24.1 however I did need to remove spamassasin first to allow the update and re-install afterwards.
Following your example, I checked the perl version on my laptop and it was 5.24.0. I marked it for update, and YAST again proposed the disastrous architecture downgrade that trashed my desktop Tumbleweed. The next suggestion was to accept a downgrade of openlibssl. I accepted this, and that got Fotoxx running again, although it is acting a bit weird; it will not shut down unless and until I start another app.
