update issues for leap 42.1

I installed opensuse leap 42.1 and after over 1000 updates, kwallet hung the system (right when yast was about to install them) and I lost all of those updates. I only have prepaid internet (that I brought, just so I could install and update leap 42.1), I do not have another $30 to buy more credit. So the first point is that, the developers of opensuse are still releasing software that is NOT READY, first it was kde 4 and now it’s kde 5. If I cannot even change the desktop wallpaper, it is NOT READY to be released! So for the second point, this is a current release, which should be STABLE (at least so I can update it, without it hunging)! Can the developers of opensuse please get the message, STOP RELEASING SOFTWARE THAT IS NOT READY!! And thanks for nothing, as that was complete waste of $30 (that I do not have to waste), last time I even bother trying to install leap 42.1, I could have updated my PS4 with that same credit. And now I’ve got less than 100MB left, once again thanks for nothing! >:(>:(>:(

As this is a rant and not a request for help, I’m moving it to soapbox…

If I were to make a highly speculative guess what the problem likely is,
I’d say that it’s likely that there is insufficient unused disk space before running the update… and yes, first update after an initial install will be large because a lot has happened to fix and improve since the original LEAP 42.1 release.

Make sure you have <at least> 2.5GB free space (the more the better) unused space before any extremely large download like what is described.

If you don’t have that much disk space, then you should have installed a smaller, lighter Desktop or none at all… In which case the first update might still be large, but maybe only half (my guestimate) than if you installed KDE or Gnome.

This is Linux, and not everything is automatic (like protecting you from running out of space), at least not today.

No, you are wrong, please see SUSE Paste

By the way I installed KDE5.

You should post your zypper log file which should include what happened to a pastebin.
Pastebins are used to post just about anything. For most support options like forums and IRC, this is where and how you would post something that is generally too large for that help environment.

Linux and pre-paid Internet – IMHO not an option.

Modern Linux is VERY network intensive – despite being “free” (as in ‘free beer’) for private people, it does need large amounts of network capacity/volume for a “normal” desktop system.

Linux “on the cheap” (especially in terms of network capacity) means, choosing the Network CD-ROM option and installing only a minimal system – no “nice” GUI – no GUI applications – command line only . . .Given a disk capacity of “only” 50 GB, I would also avoid File Systems such as Btrfs.

I’m sorry but, I’ve had enough of never ending issues with opensuse and when support for 13.1 ends, I’ll be moving my system to PCLinuxOS. And I don’t even need to download the NVIDIA drivers or VLC (with full codec support) after install (unlike opensuse) as they are included with PCLinuxOS. And also opensuse seems to take a long time the actually shutdown my system (unlike PCLinuxOS). And in terms of pre-paid internet, I don’t have a choice at the moment, because of the type of housing I’m currently living in, so landline internet is not an option for me at the moment. So it will be goodbye opensuse and say hello to PCLinuxOS!

I’ve taken a look at the PCLinuxOS German installation guide – I can begin to understand and, sympathise with, your views.
But, I’ll be remaining with the “home town” distribution.
