Thank you, that solved the error. I remember reading that you should only have the 4 main repositories, but i have 16 lol. so is there any truth to this?
Well it is true that you need to control the number of repositories in your system and if some are getting added for you such as when you use the 1-click install, you might want to remove them after the program was installed as you wanted. You can tell by the naming conventions that you did not make the entry yourself.
A quick look at my repository list shows I have 22 right now. I also use the priority number set to push the ones I want to use to the top. For instance I keep PACK-MAN at the top and put the latest KDE 4.3.5 just under by giving them a higher priority (lower number).
I do know some people have suggested to drop back to the four or five original entries to prevent unwanted updates that might crash a working system, but I don’t think that is necessary but you do not want to have multiple sources of the same file without controlling the priority of their selection.
As always, this is just my opinion on the subject.
You can keep how many repos you want, your choice.
But if you don’t want to spent time on fixing dependencies or other stuff, so it is recommended to keep just FOUR and simply disable others, if you need some applications from it, just enable it and disable after installation of that specific application/s. It will make your life easier.
I have not run into an update issue with multiple repositories enabled except for one time. This may be due to setting the priorities for the update sources in the oder I wish to use. However, I did seem to get a push update from openSUSE 11.1 to 11.2 that did not go well and for which I was unprepared to deal with. So, I do not disagree with your suggestion to disable sources you do not wish to get an update from all of the time. May I ask which four you keep enabled?
