You shouldn’t use Apper
Lets see your repos: zypper lr -d
@ caf4926,
if not Apper, which one should i use? in terminal i dont know how to select/deselect the updates. but i tried updating through Terminal, everything except this one got updated
and here is the result of zypper lr -d:

You don’t need repo #3
Although it’s nothing to do with the issue
Assuming made the ‘dup’ to tumbleweed correctly??
Because from what I see you didn’t!
You need to remove repos # 6,7,8,12,13
A ‘dup’ to tumbleweed then switching on Release48 and finally on Packman
Then all that is required is: zypper up
that worked! thanks a lot caf4926. how often should i do ‘sudo zypper dup’?
I think you ought to read the instructions over here about Tumbleweed
http://forums.opensuse.org/content/55-how-upgrade-opensuse-12-x-tumbleweed.html
The ‘zypper dup’ is really only done the once, with the official repo setup for Tumbleweed.
Repos that you add, such as Packman, you should then use the Switcher on.
Of course nothing is quite as simple as it sounds, and after all, you are using a setup that would require a degree of experience.
Which may mean, at some point, you may need to ‘zypper dup’ again.
But typically, once it’s setup correctly ‘zypper up’ will be fine.
I had already read the guide and followed the instructions while updating from 12.1 to Tumbleweed. I had added those (unwanted) repos to install packages usually not found in Tumbleweed repos. Anyway, you are right, I should learn more about Tumbleweed before attempting anything like this:shame:. thanks a lot.
I read in another thread that prioritizing repos (higher the value, lower the priority, right?) will prefer packman and other official repos over third party repos if we set it that way. But then, will it compare package version in both repos before updating. for eg, if packman (with higher priority) has KDE 4.7 and another repo (with lower priority) has KDE 4.8, which package will it install/ update?
**I keep all my repos the same.
Since the introduction of the switcher, I find priority settings redundant.
**
But to be clear
Setting a repo at 10 will give it priority over a repo with a higher number such as 99
but you didnt answer my question (the last part).
if packman (with higher priority) has KDE 4.7 and another repo (with lower priority) has KDE 4.8, which package will it install/ update?
Try it
I’m not sure
To me the question is mute. Since the switcher does the job better IMO. And the use of the switcher combined with different priorities may create more issues.

First of all, packman doesn’t carry KDE.
Secondly, the developer and maintainer of Tumbleweed, Greg K-H says no
priorities.
I have run Tumbleweed since its day one and I’ve seen his advise is good.

Here’s some more from him, today on the Factory mailing list (which I
strongly encourage to follow):
After 2+ weeks of messing with KDE 4.8 to get it to build and work
properly in openSUSE:Tumbleweed:Testing, all seems good, so it’s
starting to show up, slowly, in openSUSE:Tumbleweed this weekend.
I’m announcing this here as I know a lot of people mix the KDE:4.8 repo
with Tumbleweed on their systems, and that might cause problems if the
KDE repo is allowed to remain as packages get duplicated.
So, if you have KDE:48 in your repo list, I strongly suggest you remove
it in the next few days, as I can not support mixing the two at all,
sorry.
Note, if anyone has any problems with the KDE packages in Tumbleweed,
please let me know. Odds are I messed something up, not the KDE
developers.
thanks,
greg k-h

Packman does actually package some kde apps:
amarok
k3b
kmix
kscd
juk
and so on…

Some kde programs, yes.
But not the kde desktop environment.
These programs run also in other desktops.
I’m running some of them here in LXDE.
Sure they have some kde dependencies.

thanks a lot for that info. i’ve removed the kde 4.8 repo from my system.
