Update hung up on post trans update

I did update to 20241127 but like I want to know when this gets fixed.

Earlier, you mentioned that you had locked the Plymouth packages. Therefore, technically, you are not on version 20241127. Unlock the packages, stop the Plymouth service, update to 20241129, and enjoy!

I donā€™t install plymouth ā€“ and never have the shutdown hang or boot hang anymore. I donā€™t need a fancy boot screen that last a few seconds when it risks causing issues. Iā€™ve run that way since leap 42.3 and my Tumbleweed version is in no way dependent on whether plymouth is installed or not.

No I mean like is it safe to remove the lock for Plymouth and update?

Yes, but stop the Plymouth service before updating, otherwise you will still see the post-trans apparent freeze (see my last post above).

After reading all the comments, I did a little research in the forum and on the internet. I found that Plymouth is a recurring source of problems. So I finally uninstalled it. At least Plymouth is no longer a problem for me.

ā€¦donā€™t forget to blacklist the packages after uninstall. Otherwise the trash comes back after next zypper dup.

What about the xli package?

??? I cannot even find ā€˜xliā€™ on the standard repos?

Because this package got intentionally removed

I see, it was removed with the upgrade to 20241129 (from 20241126 on this system).
Anyway, nothing worth writing about that on my side.

This update has been one of the most frustrating zypper dups Iā€™ve done in recent memory. Not only am I getting the same issue as everyone else here about the freeze/hang during the update, I think my entire snapper rollback system is now broken?!?!?!?

After the failed update, I rebooted, and all my widgets are different sizes and the desktop takes FOREVER to load ā€¦ it sits at a blank black screen for what feels like ages. I also now have a nice neat little ā€œakondi_migration_agentā€ popup on the left bottom of my screen that I have no idea what it is and cannot ever dismiss it or make it stop. Pressing ā€œpauseā€ does nothing.

I rolled back to TWO different snapshots from earlier today and last week and everything is still the same as after the update today. Iā€™m on an older snapshot right now and it has this forever ā€œakondi_migration_agentā€ running right now that I cannot dismiss. Howā€™s that even possible? Iā€™ve never seen it before today. So something is DEFINITELY wrong with my system now. Snapper should not behave like this right? even after doing the snapper rollback Iā€™m still having:

1- akondi migration agent popup forever spinning
2- desktop takes forever to load
3- widgets are all messed up

and none of those things were present at all on the update I rolled back to. Again, howā€™s that even possible?

I donā€™t even know what to do now, Iā€™ve never had an update simultaneously make my system unstable AND destroy all the backups.

I think itā€™s important to note that this thread is about some very specific issues that folks have had - not a general ā€œletā€™s complain about the updateā€ thread.

If you have a specific issue that you want help with, then Iā€™d suggest starting a separate topic so folks can help you with it. Just piling on in an existing thread isnā€™t going to get you the visibility you need to get the help you need.

Iā€™m going to close this topic now as the specific issue thatā€™s been discussed here has been identified and solutions (or workarounds) suggested. For those who still have other specific issues related (or not) to this specific issue, please start separate topics so others can help you.
