update error

Had a notice for 50 new updates today. Had this error trying to install.
patch openSUSE-2020-1370-1.noarch conflicts with libX11-6-debuginfo.x86_64

Try as root:

zypper up

thx that worked ok :good:

Still getting that error notice after updating with zypper up

Where, when, how???

Please always be complete what you do and get. Crystal globes all have the virus.
Copy/paste the command and the output between CODE tags in a post.

I get this in console

ocalhost:~ # zypper up
Loading repository data...
Reading installed packages...

The following package update will NOT be installed:
  gstreamer-plugins-bad-lang

Nothing to do.

patch:openSUSE-2020-1370-1.noarch conflicts with libX11-6-debuginfo.x86_64

My console does not show this part though=patchhttps://forums.opensuse.org/images/smilies/redface.pngpenSUSE-2020-1370-1.noarch conflicts with libX11-6-debuginfo.x86_64 however when I copy and paste the console it shows up??

Then on kde desktop I’m getting a security update popup to install opensuse-2020-1370 (1) security update for libx11. I try to install the update and get the error “openSUSE-2020-1370-1.noarch conflicts with libX11-6-debuginfo.x86_64”

As you may have seen I tried to repair your CODE tags as good as possible. Please be more precise about the place where to paste. You can always check how your post will look by using the Preview button next to the post button.

I am not following you here. Where is this message shown?

When

zypper up

says it there is nothing to do and has not other problems, Everything is OK.

I assume that you mean by “on kde desktop I’m getting a security update popup”, that is from the update applet. I do not use it and personally I doubt it’s quality.

You have disabled the debug-update Repo, so your debug package can not be updated.
Enable it or delete the debuginfo package:
To enable the Repo:

zypper mr -f -e http://download.opensuse.org/debug/update/leap/15.2/oss/

To delete the package:

zypper rm libX11-6-debuginfo

I would do the last.
Normally you do not need the debug packages.

ok thanks. I’ll remove it.

I removed it and still getting this update error from the software updates pop up.
patch openSUSE-2020-1370-1.noarch conflicts with libX11-debugsource.x86_64

And it prevents the updates from installing so I have to use the konsole with zypper up, then it works.

When the native openSUSE tools (zypper and YaST > Software Management) work fine, what do you want more?

Why have this software update popup if it doesn’t work? It used to work when I first started using leap 15.2

You have deleted the Repo?, not all the Software installed from that Repo…

So delete also the Software…

packagekit (Software behind the applet) can not resolve such dependencies you have installed…

When you mean with “it used to work” that you did not encounter trouble with it until now, that may be true. But now you had trouble by doing something it apparently not quite understands.
When you search in these forums, you will encounter other glitches with it that were solved by repairing with (or just reversing to) the native openSUSE tools.

OK I searched for libX11-debugsource in yast software. It found one thing and I removed it and rebooted.
Hope that works.

Think of that:
If you enable an Repo and install Software from this Repo, the Software will not deleted automatically when you delete/disable the Repo.
You have to delete the Software by Hand.

Same thing if you install Software without any Repo.

If now an new Version of any dependency to this Software will be updated, the package manager can not resolve this by its own, because he does not know, what the user wants.
zypper/yast will give some choices, but packageskit can not do it by itself.

So you get this error and have to resolve it by zypper/yast.

Ok I learned something new today.
It would be helpful if the update applet could show a message like that with the error message or ideas on how to resolve errors.
