Unsung heros

just taking a moment to express my admiration that oldcpu has contributed the time and effort in the “How-To” section.

a much needed and ambitious undertaking to be sure.

my thanks to him and all the others that have done similar tasks.

Yes, he deserve a commendation. On top of that to think they are doing this for free and sometimes receive a negative response from their action. There are others not only the mods but members that are actively doing their share most notably Mr. Ken Yap who shares his knowledge in the most difficult problems that only a linux guru probably can answer.

Indeed. oldcpu has saved me many hours of work by porting the documentation over to the openSUSE wiki, allowing me to work on other projects.

i did not return to m$ because of him…*

old cpu : keep alert for m$agents… i am sure you are on their most wanted list…

LOL! I guess you could say oldcpu is now a sung hero.

Tears of joy:'(

Yes indeed! Much thanks!

I sure hope oldcpu gets to read this thread I’d say that 30% of my staying with Suse was & still is his well written posts.
Even now even if I don’t have the problem being discussed I’ll read it if I see he’s written in it. I solve some of my Suse problems without starting a new thread by just reading his posts.
Hey Oldcpu,
On 2nd thought maybe its a good thing this is a forum I’m sure there are some of us here you’d really rather not hear sing, like me?!
Either way, you are one of The Opensuse Forum Assets.

Thanks all !

After using Linux as my home desktop, almost exclusively from 1998 to 2005, and contributing nothing (except for the purchase price of the distributions I installed) I finally figured in 2005 I should put back a bit more into the openSource movement. Of course, the difficulty is if one is not a software developer, one has to then figure out where they can offer help. So at that time (in 2005) I joined some of the forums, and started trying to help other Linux users.

I have learned a LOT myself, by trying to help others, … and watching others succeed in their own challenge is also rewarding for the person helping, … so this is definitely a two way street.

I just got back late last night from a rather busy business trip … I had internet access, but no time to reply (except on last day while waiting for flight).

So this thread is a very nice welcome.

And also has exceptional patience, compared to other moderators out there. He won my admiration.

It’s been a while since I have last posted in the forums. Anyway, I just wanted to thank oldcpu for all the help he provides all of us campers in SuseLand.

For instance, last week one of your posts gave me the answer on how to securely use vnc on my mother’s computer (yes, I am on the same boat as you: setting up an old laptop for her which I plan to support from afar… and while at it teach her how to use linux).

Thanks again.
