Unread Threads, Read Threads, and Marking Threads Red

FWIW: What I (so far) do not like about this new Forum design is that there is no selection for Unread Threads. I found it far more productive to have the latest Unread Threads listed, having them disappear from that list once I check them, and being able to mark some threads or topics as Read to get them out of the way and see only the remaining threads where I might learn something or where I might be able to help.

Especially with my older eyes, I find it too exhausting to go through the list the way it is now.

I don’t expect that can be fixed, or that probably would have already been done. Just sounding off that this layout makes it far more difficult for me to contribute much.

The trick is to use your profile to set particular categories to “Tracking”.

Once you have that set, it becomes easier to navigate.

Thank you.

… was gonna ask you about replying with quote, then discovered that is actually done in the editor window icon list AFTER hitting Reply.

Yes, that’s a nice feature.

Thanks. I checked into that, but it does nothing that gets me around the problem that is making this Forum Design cumbersome to me. I tried various options, and I still get threads I checked showing in the list, just greyed. Much easier in the old forum when it showed the threads with the latest unread posts, and you could mark some things as read.

Once read, those threads would disappear, not grey out, in the list, until someone posted a new reply in the thread. Much more productive and quicker to navigate, WAY easier on the eyes.

Oh well …

Is not that exactly what Unread button on the main page does?

Yes, that is missing, you need to enter and linger on a topic to mark it as read.

Looking, but so far I see no Unread button …

Thanks, @arvidjaar
That just appeared.
But, when I click on it, I get this (in spite of hundreds of unread threads), then it disappears again:

Like this (Read threads are grey, but still in the list, Unread threads are black), and no Unread button:

Yes, Unread only shows tracked messages that you visited. New shows tracked messages that you did not yet visit. There is no way to emulate the workflow from the old forum software. Read the discussion I linked to earlier.

Thanks. That was what I was saying, and didn’t think there was a fix. Enough said. I will just have to deal with cumbersome and stay on the forums only for limited times. I appreciate your input, @arvidjaar

OH, I should mention that, in the meantime, I found that I could actually mute threads where I would not pick up any germaine information or that I could not help out in. That helps a bit.

Yes, that is basically what I did. I muted all categories that I will not read anyway (foreign languages in the first place) so New and Unread show what I am interested in. Over time it proved to be reasonable compromise.
