Unintended App Icons on System Tray

OK, sometimes I lose control of my mouse because I have arthritis, carpal tunnel or whatever. Then I have accidents. Usually, I can recover from accidents, but I can’t figure out this one.

At the moment, I have two app icons for Quanta on the sys tray:

I figure it’s as easy as removing the icons from the sys tray entries:

But I don’t see them. I’m sure this is something simple. Could someone please tell me how to remove the Quanta Icons?

Thanks in advance.

Linux 3.11.10-21-desktop
OSS 13.1 (bottle) (x86_64)

Right click them and shut them down?

Some apps just seem to like to go to system tray You probably have 2 instances running just not active on desktop

When I right click on either of them, I get a pop up menu for two actions:

  • Icon settings
  • Panel options

Under icon settings, there’s an application tab, but nothing talks about removing the icon from sys tray.

Under Panel options, I only see panel options that have nothing to do with removing the Quanta Icon (except to remove the sys tray!)

When I run top from the terminal, there’s no quanta app active. I’m stuck.:shame:

Try restarting plasma-desktop and see if the icons go away. If they do
then its probably a bug…

openSUSE Factory 64 bit
KDE 4.14.0

run

ps -A | grep quanta

That should return the PID ( process ID)
You can use the PID to kill the process(s)

you can kill it there. But you may have it starting automatically somewhere so it may return after a reboot

where did you get it and how was it installed is this the kde-quanta package? I just tried it it appear to be a KDE3 program and it did not set itself to the system tray here. I wonder how you managed that??? rotfl!

I don’t know about your case, but in other desktops where that happened
to me, it means that you are rightclicking on the panel, not on the
applet you want. Or that the click goes to the panel, anyway.

I hit alt F2 and entered plasma-desktop in the window, but nothing changed. What other way do I restart plasma-desktop?

I don’t think it was a bug. I think it was me spazzing out.

Actually, those are shortcuts to Quanta, the same as the shortcut I have on my desktop. The icon for the active running app also has the pathway.

I managed this by spazzing out with the mouse in my hand. First, I started with writer’s cramp from decades ago, then I sprained my wrist doing plumbing, then I self induced carpal tunnel syndrome with this mouse. It all went down hill from there.

When I right click on these shortcut icons in sys tray, it’s different than when I right click on the icon in the desktop folder which gives me a long list of options - one of which is to delete the icon. My spaz attacks caused something very different to happen with these Quanta shortcuts in sys tray.

If they are just short cuts then right click desktop-unlock widgets click cashew on right side of panel put mouse over short cut you should get a X popup and you should be able to remove the icon by clicking the X

If it is not a short cut then you won’t get the X popup

Be sure to clock the widgets again so you don’t accidentally change things

OK, that was simple, problem solved. THANKS!:shame:
