I have dual boot system.Windows xp SP2 and Opensuse11.Now I don’t want opensuse11.I have opensuse11 bootable dvd.Can any one suggest steps for uninstalling Opensuse11.I have mounted windows xp partitions.I want my xp as it is.Also can I run opensuse11 dvd as live dvd?
You would have to delete the Linux partitions, resize the XP partition and run “fixmbr” and possibly “fixboot” from the XP recovery console. Another solution might be to make an image of the XP partition, repartition and format the drive then restore the image.
Can you give me detail steps.Please.
hi there…
- insert installation CD (XP) and boot from it.
- when ask to install, take Rescue option.
- at the prompt: do: bootcfg /rebuild
- then: rewrite boot sector : fixboot and fixmbr
- run dismanagement to remove linux partition…
please try again SL when you feel for it…
suggest: if you have sata, install SL a HDD, XP on another and plug/unplug the one you want to work with.
good luck
what should I do by typing bootcfg / rebiuld ?
Also how should I rewrite boot sctor using fixboot and fixmbr?
I do not know anything about these commands.
ok, insert xp installation cx and boot from that cd.
when asked to install XP, take the run Rescue options.
you will be asked for admin password, if you dont have admin password, leave that field blank and press enter, you will be asked to choose the keyboard and which windows partitions to work on and you will return to a DOS prompt, and there you will type :
bootcfg /rebuild
give the 2 following commands in sequence:
fixboot
fixmbr
at these commands your will be ask questions and the answers are obvious. then boot into XP use the disk management tools to remove the linux partitions. (control panel/administrative tools/computer management/then disk management) the linux partition will be pointed as unknown partitions.
take your time and you will be back to your XP.
Thank you.I will follow your steps and hope success. Thanks again.
