I have first installed it on 10.3 and i have done ever since updates to 11.2 of KDE4 and KD3 flavours.
But now since no KDE3 support for 11.2 ,
i decided to remove all KDE 3 related staff.
So,how can remove the whole desktop and/or associated applications of KDE 3.5?
Is the only solution Search + manually removed all kde3-xxx?
The other alternative, if you have a separate /home partition, is to do a fresh install of 11,2; the installer will automatically only overwrite everything in /.
Whether this will be a viable alternative will depend on how much you have customised programs in /, whether you have any mysql databases in / and how many additional programs you have which would not be part of a standard install. It took me less than an hour and a half to do all this in my case - I had less than half a dozen programs to install separately plus restoring the mysql databases.
Well in the 11.1 i have them both,
but i want now to move on with the KDE4 only.
I do not have a separate partition for /home
but i also have other partitions and manually installations,
that will be removed.
So, i guess i have to manually do it.
Under patterns in software management in previous versions,
i could find the KDE3, so i could do it in 11.1,
but now is missing…
I want to do the same, but I’m in dependency hell when I want to remove the last bit of kde3. I want to remove kdelibs3 and yast wants to do over 400 changes, mostly downgrading my apps from 64bit to 586 o_O. That includes openoffice.org, gimp, etc… This is horrible, really
edit: and here I go answer my own question: I still don’t understand all the freaky 400+ packages like gimp, but I simply removed a few things manually and eventually openofficeorg-kde did the trick. Instead, of course, I had to get the openofficeorg-kde4. After I removed the kde3 thing for openoffice.org, I could remove kdelibs3. Yay!
I don’t think U can completely remove kde3 (even tho no longer supported there are a few kde3 base packages in the 11.2 oss repo) plus there are some non kde apps that require qt3, try removing only kde3base applications not the libs, kdm3 and see the dependencies, we are years and a few distro’s from the total death of kde3

Anyway, I’ve removed all of /opt/kde3 now. It helps if you search for “KDE3” in yast in the description field, as well. Or check what files there are left in your /opt/kde3 dirs and search that in the filelist in Yast. Only thing KDE3-like I have left is Qt3 which I think I only need for dvbcut. Good stuff!
