unable to use intel pro 4965AGN wireless

Hello,

I have a HP pavilion dv5 1090es laptop, and a intel pro wireless 4965AGN wireless network device.

I have already installed the 4965agn driver included in the opensuse installation dvd.

However, when typing ‘hwinfo --netcard’ the system identifies my card as ‘Intel Network Controller’. ‘iwconfig’ command returns ‘no wireless extensions’

In addition, my laptop has some tactile controls that suse doesn’t recognize. The most important is the wireless one. It is always shining red(disabled). Is there any way to make the os recognize it?

I have installed all the hotkeys & keyboards related packages that are included in the openSuse installation dvd, but without success.

Now ill post the reply to some commands:

iwconfig:
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
pan0 no wireless extensions.

I believe you have a 5100, what kernel are you running? I believe you need at least 2.6.27.

ops the error in bold is caused by some changes i did.

can smone please tell me how to undo them?
the instructions i typed were:

su
echo “options ipw2200 led=1” >> /etc/modprobe.d/ipw2200.modprobe
modprobe -r ipw2200
modprobe ipw2200

i tried to edit that file but i couldnt as it is loaded in memory

My kernel is 2.6.25.5-1.1

Gemini, i forgot, my kernel is 2.6.25.5-1.1

According to your lspci you don’t have a 4965 wireless card,
you have a 5100. You need to research what drivers you need for
that card.

:open_mouth:

your are right gemini. Ive checked it in Windows.
I didn’t expect it at all beause I bought directly to HP a laptop which supposedly mounted a 4965agn.
Of course 5100 is cheaper… Don’t know if demand it…
Is 4965 better than 5100?

thank you!

The 5100 and 5300 are newer than the 4965. 5300 is the top
of the line. check here

I don’t know if the link will work, first time I tried one in these
forums.

Thank you Gemini!

I found some problems installing my intel link 5100. In case someone needs it, I could solve them following this ubuntu forum:
[ubuntu] Does ubuntu supports Intel WiFi Link 5300 (AGN) network card? - Page 3 - Ubuntu Forums](http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=903240&page=3)
