I am facing some problems while trying to enable and use GDM as the default display manager.
##What I have done?

I have installed gdm, then tried to set it as the default display manager using update-alternatives and the result is as shown below…
sudo update-alternatives --config default-displaymanager
There are 3 choices for the alternative default-displaymanager (providing /usr/lib/X11/displaymanagers/default-displaymanager).
Selection Path Priority Status
------------------------------------------------------------
* 0 /usr/lib/X11/displaymanagers/gdm 25 auto mode
1 /usr/lib/X11/displaymanagers/console 5 manual mode
2 /usr/lib/X11/displaymanagers/gdm 25 manual mode
3 /usr/lib/X11/displaymanagers/xdm 10 manual mode
then I rebooted but got into a tty.

when I did, systemctl status display-manager.service' I got this Unit display-manager.service could not be found`
systemctl set-default graphical.target
It is display-manager-legacy.service now. The recommended way is to not use it and alternatives and simply enable gdm.service directly which will also set alias display-manager.service. You may need to install gdm-systemd for it.
After installing gdm-systemd, I was able to enable it. Although after I rebooted, it showed nothing but a blank screen. Tho, I could access other ttys.
