I recently installed OpenSUSE 13.1 on my computer. I downloaded and extracted Eclipse and tried to start it by double clicking eclipse icon. After I select the workspace, Eclipse doesn’t open. I have same problem with both Eclipse Kepler and Juno. I am using Dell Inspiron laptop with Intel i5 processor, 8GB ram and 150 GB partition for OpenSUSE.
Run it in a terminal window and see what error you get.
Also, try to change the GTK2 theme to Raleigh, Eclipse has problems with certain other themes. If you’re using KDE you can do that in “Configure Desktop”/Systemsettings->“Application Appearance”->GTK.
And see also this thread:
http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/applications/492348-eclipse-juno-crashs-opensuse-13-1-a.html
I changed theme to Rayleigh and it did not work. Here is output after i tried starting from terminal:
linux-a4qc:/home/vijay/Documents/eclipse # ./eclipse

That is normal if you have pipelight installed, seems as if the eclipse
browser also installs the plugin (which uses wine for silverlight support).

I forgot to that the 64 bit
Version: Kepler Service Release 1
Build id: 20130919-0819
runs on my ThinkPad Edge 320 (i3, openSUSE13.1 64 bit).
Have you tried to open a completely empty workspace? It crashed on my
other machine when I tried to open a workspace previously used by Indigo.
Opening on a completely empty workspace worked. ~ Thanks.
