I decided the other day i wud install 11.o with kde4 to try it out and it wudnt work once i logged in so i decided i would go back to 10.3
so i booted the 10.3 dvd as usual and went for a clean install and straight away im getting an error now saying the checksum isnt right? its the first time ive ever seen this error, this dvd has worked everytime in the past and im unsure how i can correct the cheksum or get arround this
can anybody offer me some advice of what i need to do?
Your DVD just might be failing. I have had them good for 4 or 5 times, then suddenly fail. If you are willing to take a chance, you can bypass the “Check Media” and keep proceeding.
I wouldn’t risk going ahead with the install anyway. I tried that once, a few important packages didn’t install. In the future, try burning the DVD at lower speeds.
Personally, I would suggest just using KDE3 off of the 11.0 dvd, if you aren’t happy with KDE4.
I agree with Lysdestic’s suggestion. Simply re-install 11.0, but this time select the KDE-3.5.9 desktop (instead of KDE-4.0.4). I have openSUSE-11.0 KDE-3.5.9 running on a PC next to a 10.3 PC running KDE-3.5.7 and IMHO the 11.0 KDE-3.5.9 is superior.
