I’m unable to play ITU H.264 high profile encoded video in totem I have all the ffmpeg libav codec pack still totem seems to not pickup the video codec. However I’m able to play it in smplayer and other distros like mint with totem. The software center says there are available codecs but it says Unable to find Requested software.
Totem uses gstreamer, so make sure the corresponding gstreamer plugins are installed.
In particular you should have gstreamer-plugins-bad-orig-addon, gstreamer-plugins-ugly-orig-addon, and gstreamer-plugins-libav, and switch the rest to the Packman versions (it is advisable to do a full switch to Packman as shown here: SDB:Vendor change update - openSUSE Wiki )
If those packages don’t help, try to remove the gstreamer plugin cache, i.e. delete the folder ~/.cache/gstreamer-1.0/.
Maybe you stumbled upon 951150 – Totem 3.18.0-2.1 does not show .mp4 videos with VA-API acceleration or something similar.
Videos with normal or constrained profiles seem to play OK in my setup, but some HD videos give “Gstreamer general stream error”.
The same videos play OK in Firefox with the Cisco H264 codec.
No go; Totem is not playing videos with ITU H.264 (High profile) videos. Whereas it plays fine in Ubuntu based distros
You have switched all avaible installed packages to Packman?
If you face choices. Look carefully for the option to let the package/s switch from openSUSE > packman
When done. Close the terminal. And open Yast > Software Management and Apply the Package Switcher on Packman.
KDE: Example of Packman switch in KDE
Gnome: Example of Packman switch in Gnome
If you encounter dependency errors: Eg: Errors You need to accept changes that allow vendor switch to Packman If you can’t work it out. Ask in the forum.

Yes I have done switching the packages, I able to play all the formats except ITU H.264 Profile.
What about this as User:
/usr/bin/totem --play /path/to/the/video.mp4
Any error?
Please be aware that there is a fix tobug951150 in case that was your problem:
install gstreamer-plugins-vaapi-0.7.0-15.1.x86_64.rpm and its 6 libgstvaapi dependencies from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/multimedia:/libs/openSUSE_Leap_42.1/x86_64/
try disabling hardware acceleration, your gfx probably does not support h264 high profile decodin and Totem does not switch to a software renderer
Now the videos seem to work… I had to reinstall the OS and switch to packman repository everything seem to work…Thanks!!
I too need vaapi acceleration. AFAIK, the totem guys have specifically said they do NOT work as of yet with the vaapi drivers.
My next step is try to build the outdated mplayer with vaapi support (may have tried and failed).
Opengl on the Intel HD 4600 seems to work ok, I only had to weaken a few settings and I have ut2004 working a 1920x1200 reasonably well.
But playing HD videos?? Haven’t had success with that yet.
???
After the last update to Packman Essentials repo (which now includes gstreamer-plugins-vaapi) Totem plays HD videos (H264 High profile) without a glitch…
You don’t need essentials the regular packman has all the stuff
